Idinepensa ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) ang pakikipag-deal nito sa Smartmatic sa kabila na pinayuhan na sila noon ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na humanap na lamang ng ibang election technology provider na fraud-fee.

Ang Smartmatic ang magbibigay ng automated system na gagamitin sa 2022 national elections.

Ani Comelec Commissioner Marlon Casquejo, hindi nila pinili ang Smartmatic kundi ito ang nanalo sa isinagawang bidding.

“They joined the competitive bidding. It’s beyond our control kung sino mananalo. It will be the lowest calculated bid,” paliwanag ni Casquejo.

“We conducted a post qualification, and may observers naman tayo. We just followed what the GPBB [Government Procurement Policy Board] will give us,” dagdag niya.

Iginawad ng Comelec sa Smartmatic ang “contract for the Procurement of Automated Election System Software for the Election Management System, Vote Counting Machines and Consolidation and Canvassing System to be used in the 2022 National and Local Elections” na may P402 milyon ang halaga.

Simula pa 2010 ay Smartmatic na ang naging election technology provider ng poll body.
