Binigyan na ng Philippine National Police (PNP) ng karapatan ang Department of Justice (DOJ) na buksan ang mga tala kaugnay ng mga nasawi sa war on drugs ng pulisya.

Ayon kay DOJ Secretary Menardo Guevarra, ilan sa mga tala ng PNP na kanilang kikilatisin ay ang 61 na mga kaso kung saan nauugnay ang pulisya sa kamatayang dulot ng laban kontra droga.

“What is significant right now is that the DOJ has been given free access, something that did not happen in previous years, thereby making our review rather difficult,” saad ni Guevarra.

“The DOJ, however, will continue to examine case records available from its regional prosecution offices other than those covered in its initial report,” dagdag pa ng kalihim.

Ayon pa sa kanya, nakipagpulong na siya kay PNP Chief Guillermo Eleazar kung saan nagpahayag umano ng suporta ang hepe ng pulisya para maresolba ang ilang isyung kinasasangkutan ng mga pulis sa drug war.

“General Eleazar expressed his sincere intention to cooperate with the DOJ in order to remove or discipline wrongdoers among the ranks of the police and thereby uplift the image of the PNP as protectors of the people. The DOJ and the PNP will execute a formal memorandum to embody this agreement,” pahayag pa ni Guevarra.
