Nagbanta ang isang ekonomista mula sa Moody’s Analytics sa maaaring maging negatibong epekto ng Delta variant sa ekonomiya ng bansa.

Ayon kay Moody’s Analytics senior Asia Pacific economist Katrina Ell, ang naitalang local transmission ng mas nakahahawang variant ay maaaring magdulot ng pagbaba sa gross domestic product ng bansa, na huling naitala sa 4.8%

“Downside risks are elevated much more so than the upside and I would say the Philippines is not out of the woods by any means and I would say there is still a significant threat to the expectation that GDP growth is going to perform 4.8 to 4.9 percent, which is what we’re expecting this year,” pahayag ni Ell sa isang panayam ng ANC.

“If we’re seeing that they [the cases] are maintained at the 5,000 level then we will maintain our forecast of almost 5 percent this year, but if we do see that those numbers start to climb more significantly, then we will be downward revising,” dagdag pa ng ekonomista.

Ang tinataya namang GDP ng pamahalaan para sa kasalukuyang taon ay naglalaro sa 6% hanggang 7%.

Ngunit nitong Hulyo 16 ay nasa 16 kaso na rin ng Delta variant ang naitatala ng Health Department sa bansa.
