Hinimok ng isang kongresista ang Department of National Defense (DND) na pasakayin ng commercial flight ang mga sundalo habang wala pa ang mga eruplanong bibilhin ng Philippine Air Force.

Sinabi ni House Committee on Strategic Intelligence chairperson at Surigao del Sur Johnny Pimentel na maaaring maglaan ang Kongreso ng pondo na pambayad sa mga commercial flights.

“Assuming Camp Aguinaldo is in a rush to deploy soldiers somewhere, and no military aircraft is readily available, we would recommend the use of either commercial or chartered flights,” sabi ni Pimentel.

Bukod sa mas magiging komportable ang mga sundalo ay makatutulong din umano ito sa pagbangon ng local airline industry na isa sa mga naapektuhan ng COVID-19 pandemic.

Noong Hulyo 4, isa sa dalawang C-130H place ng PAF ang naaksidente habang papalapag sa Jolo Airport sa Sulu province kung saan nasa 50 ang nasawi.

Hindi nagtagal ay naglaan ang Kamara de Representantes ng P5.5 bilyon sa ilalim ng 2022 national budget para makabili ang PAF ng limang C-130J Super Hercules plane mula sa American aerospace and defense contractor na Lockheed Martin Corp.

“We are all for the purchase of the new aircraft. Besides their military use, the new planes will improve our capacity to swiftly deploy emergency first responders as well as relief supplies to provinces hit by typhoons, earthquakes, and other natural disasters,” sabi ni Pimentel.

Ang Super Hercules ay isang versatile four-engine turboprop troop and cargo transport aircraft na maaaring makalipad at makalapag sa maikli at malubak na runway.

Ang bawat C-130J ay kayang magsakay ng 92 pasahero o 64 fully equipped soldier.
