Kahit pa hindi na mandatory ang pagsusuot ng face shield, patuloy na ipinagtataka ni Anakalusugan Rep. Mike Defensor ang nadiskubre niya na bumili ang Quezon City government ng face shield sa halagang P67.50 kada isa.
Ani Defensor, hindi pa siya nakakarinig ng anomang paliwanag mula sa QC gov’t hinggil sa pagbili ng 400,000 piraso ng overpriced face shield noong 2020, na pinondohan ng P27 milyon.
Pinangunahan ng mambabatas ang paghahain ng resolusyon sa Kamara noong Agosto 2021 upang imbestigahan ang pagbili ng mamahaling face shield, na hindi rin umano dumaan sa public bidding.
“Whereas, at the time of QC’s purchase, there were news reports that the price of face shields went up to P10 from previous P5. We note, however, that the P67.50 negotiated sale per piece of Strength Medical and Drug Supply and the QC government is more than 600% higher than the going rate of P10 in Binondo for face shields during the same time frame,” saad sa kanyang resolution.
Noong 2020 ginawang mandatory ang pagsusuot ng face shield sa mga pampublikong lugar, samantalang nitong Nobyembre lamang binawi ang naturang kautusan kasabay ng pagbaba ng mga kaso ng COVID at pag-arangkada ng pagbabakuna. (mjd)
