Umabot na umano sa 927 halal na opisyal ng lungsod, munisipyo, at barangay ang pinaslang mula 2016 hanggang 2021 at karamihan sa mga kaso ay hindi nalutas.

Ito ang sinabi ni Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert Ace Barbers kasabay ng pagkondena nito sa mga nangyaring pananambang kamakailan sa mga halal na opisyal ng bansa.

Kasama sa tinutukoy ni Barbers ang pagpatay kina Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo at Aparri Cagayan Vice-Mayor Rommel Alameda, at pananambang na nagresulta sa pagkasugat nina Lanao del Sur Gov. Mamintal Adiong Jr. at Datu Montawal Maguindanao del Sur Mayor Ohto Montawal.

“While it is painful to bear this recent surge of violence, we should not forget all other public officials who became victims of violence while holding office in the past. What is more distressing is that most of these cases remain un-solved, their perpetrators have not been brought to justice and certainly roaming around scot-free,” sabi ni Barbers.

Batay sa datos na nakalap ni Barbers, 58 mayor, 35 vice mayor, 126 konsehal, 402 kapitan ng barangay at 306 konsehal ng barangay ang pinatay mula 2016 hanggang 2021.

Mayroon namang 163 na nasugatan at 91 ang nakaligtas, ayon kay Barbers.

“All these incidents are not only a tragic reflection of political violence, but they are also unacceptable in our descent and God-fearing society. They do not only rob our country of dedicated public servants, but they also undermine the stability and security of our society,” sabi ng mambabatas.

Nanawagan si Barbers sa otoridad na gawin ang lahat upang malutas ang mga krimen at mapanagot ang mga salarin.

“The rule of law must be upheld, and those who commit violent acts must be held accountable for their actions,” dagdag pa ni Barbers. “Furthermore, I call on all citizens to reject violence and to work together to build a peaceful and harmonious society. We must prioritize dialogue and understanding over conflict and division.” (Billy Begas)
