Pinapurihan ni Senador Francis ‘Tol’ Tolentino ang mga ipinamalas na kabayanihan ng 82 miyembro ng Philippine contingent na tumulong sa rescue operation sa mga lugar na labis na winasak ng lindol sa Turkey at Syria.

“This humble representation is standing up again to express this institution’s heartfelt gratitude, and salute to the 82-man team… who brought assistance to those heavily affected by the strong earthquake,” sabi ni Tolentino sa kaniyang co-sponsorship speech.

Sa Senate Resolution No. 535, binibigyang papugay nito ang Philippine government contingent dahil sa kanilang katapangan at serbisyo sa rescue at recovery efforts kasunod ng magnitude 7.8 na lindol na tumama sa katimugang bahagi ng Turkey at hilagang bahagi ng Syria.

Ang Philippine contingent ay binubuo ng rescue at medical personnel mula sa Office of Civil Defense (OCD), National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), Department of Health (DOH), Philippine Army, Philippine Air Force, Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) at Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Police.

Ipinagmalaki rin ni Tolentino, dating naging chairman ng MMDA, ang siyam na personnel mula sa ahensya na nagpamalas ng kanilang kabayanihan para makapagligtas ng buhay.

Ang naturang team mula sa MMDA ay siya ring ipinadala noon ni Tolentino sa Nepal earthquake noong Abril 2015.

“Perhaps my pride and sentiment today in honoring the 82-strong contingent– nine (9) of whom I’ve worked with when I was the MMDA Chairperson can be best summed up by the words of William Shakespeare in his immortal play, Henry V: ‘From this day to the ending of the world, But we in it shall be remembered- We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he to-day that sheds his blood with me, Shall be my brother’,” saad ni Tolentino.

“The Philippine contingent’s cause is not only for the country, but “in the service of humanity,” “especially of those ravaged by the force of nature,” dagdag pa niya. (Dindo Matining)
