Hinimok ni Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co ang publiko na samantalahin ang pagpapalawig sa deadline ng pagpaparehistro ng SIM card at gawin ito sa lalong madaling panahon.

Pinuri rin ni Co, chairperson ng House Committee on Appropriations ang hakbang ng administrasyong Marcos na dagdagan ng 90 araw ang panahon ng pagrerehistro upang mabigyan ng pagkakataon ang mga hindi pa nagpaparehistro na makakuha ng requirement.

“Many of our fellow Filipinos do not have government-issued IDs, which is a requirement for registration. With this extension, they will have more time to comply with the requirement and avoid being disconnected from vital communication networks,” sabi ni Co.

Bukod sa kawalan ng valid government-issued ID, sinabi ni Co na maraming Pilipino ang limitado ang access sa internet.

Ayon sa ulat ng Philippine Statistics Authority, noong 2020 ay 67% pamilya lamang ang mayroong Internet access sa bansa.

“We should also be proactive in reaching out to the communities who do not have access to the internet and provide a free SIM card registration. This could be a step towards bridging the digital divide and ensuring that all Filipinos have equal access to information and services online,” dagdag pa ng mambabatas. (Billy Begas)
