Nakipagpulong si House Committee on Appropriations chairperson at Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co sa mga opisyal ng Department of Agriculture (DA) upang pag-usapan ang plano kung papaano matitiyak na may sapat na suplay ng bigas sa bansa at mapababa ang presyo nito.

Alinsunod sa utos ni Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, kinausap ni Co at House Committee on Agriculture and Food chairperson Mark Enverga ang mga opisyal ng DA sa pangunguna nina Undersecretary for Rice Industry Development Leocadio Sebastian at National Irrigation Administration Acting Administrator Eduardo Guillen.

Iginiit ni Co ang kahalagahan na magtulong-tulong upang matugunan ang mga isyu kaugnay ng suplay ng bigas at presyo nito.

“We need a unified plan that involves the cooperation and coordination of the various government agencies that are responsible for food production, irrigation, and infrastructure. We cannot rely solely on one agency to solve this problem,” sabi ni Co.

Binigyan-diin ni Co ang kahalagahan na gumamit ng mga modernong technique at teknolohiya upang dumami ang produksyon ng bigas sa bansa at mapataas ang kalidad nito.

“We also need to ensure that these technologies are accessible and affordable to our farmers,” dagdag pa ng solon.

Itinulak din ni Co ang pagtatayo ng mga modern rice mill sa bawat agricultural region upang mabawasan ang nasasayang na bigas.

“Additionally, it is crucial to enhance our farming infrastructures, including irrigation systems, farm-to-market roads, and storage facilities. These improvements will not only increase productivity but also provide better access for farmers to markets, enabling them to maximize their profits,” sabi pa ng mambabatas.

Ang paglago umano ng produksyon ng bigas ay magdudulot ng dagdag na trabaho, magpapataas sa kita ng mga magsasaka, at magpapatatag sa ekonomiya. (Billy Begas)
